WILLIAM J. KLEIN was named President of the Minnesota regional
operations of Marshall & Ilsley Bank in August 2001, after
Milwaukee-based Marshall & Ilsley Corporation acquired National
City Bank of Minneapolis, where he was Executive Vice President.
Over 15 years, he built National City’s professional banking
business from $3 million to $50 million, and its private banking
revenues from $13 million to $60 million; reorganized the
community banking division and created a small and emerging
business discipline; reorganized the bank’s non-deposit sales
delivery process; and consolidated business banking, community
banking and trust services to create a client services division.
In addition to heading up M&I Bank’s Minnesota regional
operations, Mr. Klein is Chairman of the M&I Regional Credit
Committee and is serving on the Boards of both the Greater
Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce and the Metropolitan Economic
Development Association (MEDA). Mr. Klein is a graduate of
Concordia College, St. Paul, Minnesota, and the Executive
Development Programs I and II at Wharton School. He has been
honored by Twin Cities Business Monthly as one of ‘100 People to
Watch’ in 2002 and by CityBusiness as one of the year’s ‘Heavy
Hitters in Banking and Finance.’
