EDWARD KORNREICH is a Partner in Proskauer Rose LLP’s Health Care
Department and serves in the New York City office. He has
practiced health care law for over 20 years. He represents not-
for-profit and for-profit hospitals, academic medical centers,
physician groups, physician management companies, HMOs, venture
capitalists and healthcare entrepreneurs in, among other things,
regulatory compliance matters, mergers and acquisitions regarding
healthcare entities, managed care contracting, the development of
integrated health systems and physician organizations, hospital
purchases of physician practices, and joint venture arrangements.
His past experience reflects a blend of public and private
service and institutional and non-institutional settings. Upon
graduating from Harvard Law School, Mr. Kornreich worked for the
Legal Aid Society. He then entered private practice, where he
helped represent a major public hospital corporation in a series
of reimbursement disputes with the state and federal governments,
and counseled metropolitan hospitals and nursing homes on
reimbursement and operational issues. Thereafter, he served as
General Counsel of the St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center, one
of the largest teaching hospitals in New York. Upon leaving the
St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center, Mr. Kornreich joined
Proskauer as a Partner in 1990. He frequently writes and lectures
on Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, healthcare integration,
and the application of federal and state anti-kickback and
‘Stark’ laws to healthcare transactions. He is a past Chair of
the Health Law Committee of the Association of the Bar of the
City of New York.
