William A. Black

WILLIAM A. BLACK is President and Chief Executive Officer of Maritime
Life Assurance Company. He was educated at Dalhousie University, and
received a B.A., B.Sc. degree 1970. Mr. Black is a member of the Society
of Actuaries, 1974, Fellow and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries since
1974 in Fellow. His community activities include: Canada Pension Plan
Advisory Board, member, 1985-1990 (on behalf of the Government of
Canada); Izaak Walton Killiam Hospital for Children, 1986-1996; member
of the Board and Executive Committee, as well as chairman of the Board
of Governors, 1994-1996; Metropolitan Halifax Chamber of Commerce senior
vice president, May, 1995-May, 1995; president, May, 1996-June, 1997;
Immediate past president, June, 1997-May, 1998; Junior Achievement’s
Nova Scotia Business Hall of Fame Board of Governors, April, 1996-
