William L. Hunter, MD, MSc, is the Chairman and CEO of Angiotech. He co-
founded the company in 1992 while a medical student at the University of
British Columbia. Since he became CEO in 1997, the company has completed
four corporate alliances (totalling over $65M) with Boston Scientific
Corp., Cook Inc., C.R. Bard, Inc. and Alcon. Dr. Hunter has co-authored
over 40 peer-reviewed publications and abstracts and nine patent
applications in the fields of Angiotech's core technology ' systemic
paclitaxel for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and multiple
sclerosis, topical paclitaxel for psoriasis and paclitaxel-coated stents
to prevent restenosis. The Science Council of British Columbia has
recognized Dr. Hunter's medical research and scientific innovation by
naming him the 1997 winner of the BC Science & Technology Award for
Industrial Innovation. In May 2000, Dr. Hunter was a recipient of the
prestigious Canada's Top 40 Under 40 Award. Profile
