DR. WILLIAM H. RASTETTER has served as President and Chief Executive
Officer and as a Director of IDEC Pharmaceuticals Corporation since
December 1986, and served as Chief Financial Officer from 1988 to 1993.
He was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Company in
May 1996. He also currently serves as Director on the board of Argonaut
Technologies, a privately held developer and supplier of automated
chemistry instrumentation and on the board of Spiros Development
Corporation II, a Dura Pharmaceuticals affiliated company that develops
asthma and other pulmonary disease drugs for delivery in Spiros, a
pulmonary drug delivery system. Dr. Rastetter is active in community
service, particularly in biomedical trade organizations and advisory
boards. In this capacity, he serves as the 1998 Co-Chair and Director of
BIOCOM/San Diego, and is a Director of the California Healthcare
Institute. From 1984 to 1986, Dr. Rastetter was Director of Corporate
Ventures at Genentech, Inc.; from 1982 to 1984, he served in a
scientific capacity at Genentech. From 1975 to 1982, he held various
faculty positions including that of Associate Professor of Chemistry at
the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Rastetter received his
Ph.D. in chemistry from Harvard University in 1975. Profile
