WILLIAM CASTELL has been the Chief Executive Officer of Nycomed Amersham
plc (formerly Amersham International plc), the health science company,
since 1990. Previously, Mr. Castell was employed at Wellcome plc from
1975 and served as the Commercial Director, Wellcome plc, 1987-1989. He
is also a non-executive Director, The General Electric Company plc,
since October 1, 1997. Mr. Castell received a BA (Hons.) Business
Studies and a FCA (Spicer & Pegler). His interests include:
International affairs and economic regeneration, including Business in
the Community (leading Regeneration Through Heritage initiative);
Chairman, The Prince's Trust, since 1998; Chairman of Design Dimension,
an educational charity; Visiting Fellow, Green College, Oxford; and
Companion, Institute of Management. Mr. Castell is married with three
