Thomas Van Weelden – Allied Waste Industries (awin)

THOMAS VAN WEELDEN serves as CEO and President. He joined the Company in January of 1992 and was elected a Director of the Company in March 1992. From December 1992 until July 1997, he served as President and COO of the Company. He is a second generation executive in the solid waste industry, beginning his career as a teenager on the back of a truck in a family owned waste company serving Chicago. The family company became part of Waste Management, Inc. ('WMX') in 1972 and Mr. Van Weelden was engaged in acquisitions and acquisition integration for WMX until 1975, when he left to found an independent waste company. Prior to joining Allied, he served as President of two privately owned solid waste companies, which were acquired by Allied (one in January and the other in July 1992). Mr. Van Weelden attended Pepperdine University, studying Business Management and the University of Wisconsin where he studied Environmental Engineering.
