RONALD E. SMITH is Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of
Emera Incorporated. Prior to joining Emera in 2000, he was CFO,
Telecommunications, for Aliant Inc. Before that, he worked for 12 years
as CFO of Maritime Telegraph & Telephone Company Limited, a predecessor
to Aliant. Prior to joining MTT, he was a partner with Ernst & Young
Management Consultants. Mr. Smith is a Fellow of the Institute of
Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia, and a recipient of the 125th
Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Medal. He is a member of the
National Council of Financial Executives of the Conference Board of
Canada; a Director of the Financial Executives Institute; and a member
of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Institute of
Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia. Mr. Smith has a Bachelor of
Business Administration from Acadia University and obtained his
Chartered Accountant designation in 1973. Profile
