Rodney R. Proto – Waste Management Inc

RODNEY R. PROTO, has been President, Chief Operating Officer and a director of Waste Management, Inc. since joining the Company as a result of the August, 1996 merger with USA Waste. Prior to August, 1996 he was President, Chief Operating Officer and a director of predecessor companies, USA Waste and Sanifill since February, 1992. Before joining Sanifill, Mr. Proto was employed by Browning-Ferris Industries, Inc. ('BFI') for 12 years where he served, among other positions, as President of Browning Ferris Industries Europe, Inc. and Chairman of BFI Overseas. Other positions held by Mr. Proto include; Director of Mace, Inc., Director of Quanta Services, Inc., Commissioner of Houston Clean City Commission, Board Member and Director and past Chairman of The Regis School for Boys, Director of Texas Business Hall of Fame Foundation, and a Director of Keep Houston Beautiful. Pas affiliations of Mr. Proto's include Director of American Chamber of Commerce in The Netherlands, Chairman of the Board of International School of Amsterdam, and an Environmental Speaker of International Environmental Committee of the Rotary Foundation. Mr. Proto graduated from Carnegie-Mellon University with a degree in Metallurgy. He continued on to the University of Pittsburgh where he received his MBA. He was born August 3, 1948 and married Linda in 1969. They have three sons, ages 27, 24, 15 and one daughter, age 21. He and Linda also act as foster parents for newborn babies. Profile
