Robert S. Cline – Airborne Freight Corporation (abf)

ROBERT S. CLINE is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Airborne Freight Corporation, the third largest air express company in the country. A graduate of Dartmouth College with a degree in Engineering, he began his career with the Chase Manhattan Bank in New York in 1960. In 1965, Mr. Cline joined Pacific Air Freight as Vice President of finance. He remained in this position when Pacific Air Freight merged with Airborne in 1968. Mr. Cline has served Airborne in a variety of financial and administrative capacities. These include Vice President, finance; Senior Vice President, finance; and Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer. He was named Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for the company in 1984. Mr. Cline's involvement in community interests is extensive. He is a past trustee and past chairman of the Seattle Repertory Theater, trustee and past chairman of The Children's Hospital Foundation, and trustee and past chairman of the Corporate Council for the Arts. Mr. Cline is also a member of the Board of Directors of Washington Roundtable, Seattle First National Bank, SAFECO Corporation, and Metricom, Inc. Further, he is an emeritus member of the Advisory Board of the University of Washington Business School. Mr. Cline was a past board member as well as chairman of the 1991 United Way campaign for King County. He lives in Seattle, Washington with his wife, Judy. He has four daughters. Profile
