Robert Coackley – Larscom Incorporated (lars)

ROBERT COACKLEY is President and CEO of Larscom Incorporated. He has an extensive engineering background, with 40 years of experience in data networking and telecommunications. Previously with INRANGE Technologies Corporation (formerly known as General Signal Networks, Inc.), he served as President and CEO since 1991. Prior to that, Mr. Coackley was President of LP COM, Mountain View, California, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tektronix Inc. that specialized in protocol analysis. Earlier in his career, Mr. Coackley spent 15 years in a variety of senior positions with Hewlett-Packard, both in the UK and the US, where he managed both the design of telecommunications products and the operation of the large corporate networks in which they are used. Before that, he was Managing Director of Telspec Ltd., a manufacturer of telecommunications line equipment in the UK. Educated in England, Mr. Coackley graduated with Honors in Electrical Engineering from City University in London. He is a Fellow in the British Institution of Electrical Engineers, and is a Chartered Engineer. The early stages of his career were shaped by British Telecom where he was trained in a wide range of telecommunications operations from switching to satellite transmission. After some 12 years with British Telecom, he worked in the aerospace industry and developed some of the experimental hardware used in European and US space programs. He holds a number of patents in telecommunications testing and magnetometry, has testified before Congress as an expert on the telecommunications industry, is a Governor of the Electronics Industries Alliance and is on the Board of Directors of the Telecommunications Industry Association. Currently, he chairs the Technical Committee, which oversees standards activity for the TIA and the industry. He is also a member of the Moorestown Rotary Club and the Union League of Philadelphia. His wife knows the electronics industry well, is heavily involved in community activities, enjoys home crafts and tolerates her husband's commitment to his work.
