Peter Johnson – Inchcape Plc (inch.l)

PETER W JOHNSON is the Group Chief Executive of Inchcape Plc. Peter Johnson, 52, was appointed Group Chief Executive of Inchcape Plc on 1 July 1999. He had been serving as Group Chief Executive (Designate) following the announcement in March 1998 that in the future Inchcape would focus exclusively on its international Motors operations. Peter joined the Inchcape Group in 1995 as Chief Executive of Inchcape Motors Retail, and became Chief Executive of Inchcape Motors International in 1996, responsible for the Group's non-Toyota businesses. He was appointed to the Inchcape Board in January 1998. Peter has worked in the motor industry for nearly 30 years. His first 18 years were with the Rover Group. Starting in Regional Sales Operations, he rose to become Worldwide Sales Director. He then spent two years at Applied Chemicals before moving to the Marshall Motor Group as Chief Executive before joining Inchcape Motors Retail. From 1993 to 1996 Peter served as Chairman of the Institute of the Motor Industry and was Vice President of the Retail Motor Industry Federation from 1995 to 1996.
