SIR PETER DAVIS has been the group Chief Executive of Prudential Plc
since 1995, having originally joined the Board as a non-executive
director in 1994. He will become Chairman of Prudential in May 2000.
He has been a non-executive director of Boots Company since 1991 and
became non-executive director of Cadbury Schweppes in May 1999.
Previously, he was Chief Executive and then Chairman of Reed
International from 1986-94. He became Chairman of Reed Elsevier
following the merger of Reed International with Elsevier. While with
Reed International he led the transformation of the company from a
manufacturing conglomerate to an international publishing and
information company. Before joining Reed in 1986, he worked for J
Sainsbury Plc from 1976 where he became assistant managing director with
responsibility for all buying and marketing operations. Peter became
Chairman of Business in the Community in April 1997 and in June 1997
Chairman of the government's Advisory Task Force on the New Deal for
Young People and the Long Term Unemployed. He was formerly Chairman of
the Basic Skills Agency from 1989-97 and the National Advisory Council
for Education and Training Targets from 1993-97. He was knighted in the
1997 New Year's honours for services to training and industry. He is a
trustee of the Royal Opera House. He is a founder Board member of the
Marketing Council, Vice President of the Chartered Institute of
Marketing and a Fellow of the Marketing Society. He is married with two
sons and one daughter. His hobbies are sailing, opera, reading and
