NABIL M. LAWANDY is founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of
Spectra Systems Corporation since its formation in July 1996. He is the
Chairman of the Board of Directors. From 1981 to 1999, Dr. Lawandy was a
tenured full Professor of Engineering and Physics at Brown University in
Providence, Rhode Island. Dr. Lawandy holds a BA in Physics from The
Johns Hopkins University, an MS in Chemistry from The Johns Hopkins
University, and a PhD in Chemistry from The Johns Hopkins University. He
has authored 165 reviewed scientific papers, and is an inventor on 39
issued patents. Dr. Lawandy has also received a Presidential Young
Investigator award, an Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship, a Rolex Award for
Enterprise and a Samuel Slater Award for Innovation. Profile
TWST: Would you give us an overview of Spectra Systems?Dr. Lawandy: The company was founded in late 1996 as a spinout from
Brown University, where I was a professor for 16 years in
