Matthew Andresen – The Island Ecn Inc

MATTHEW ANDRESEN has been serving as President of The Island ECN, Inc. since 1998, when he joined the company to manage and lead Island's overall operations. Since that time, Mr. Andresen has spearheaded Island's explosive growth and overseen its role in shaping the new electronic marketplace. Under Mr. Andresen's leadership, Island has become the fastest, most efficient, and lowest cost forum for trading equity securities. In 1999, Island's trading volume was over 26.5 billion shares, with a total dollar volume of $1.56 trillion. On an average day, Island trades approximately 200 million shares ' accounting for approximately 12% of NASDAQ's volume. On June 28, 1999, Mr. Andresen launched Island upon one of its most significant challenges ' filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to become the Nation's first for-profit stock exchange. Industry Standard magazine recently named Mr. Andresen one of the 'Ten People to Watch in 2000,' and Institutional Investor magazine also placed Mr. Andresen within its elite corps of 'The Online Finance 40,' naming him one of the individuals making the greatest impact on e-finance today. Mr. Andresen holds a BA in Economics and Political Science from Duke University in Durham, NC. A championship fencer, he was an alternate for the 1996 US Olympic Team. At Duke, Mr. Andresen was also a National Champion and a four-time All-American in the sport. Mr. Andresen has frequently appeared as an expert witness before various US Congressional Committees on such issues as the future of US equity markets, the benefits of electronic exchanges and the role of venture capital.
