KATHERINE D. CROTHALL, PhD, President and CEO of Animas Corporation,
founded the company in late 1996. Prior to Animas, Dr. Crothall was
President and CEO of Luxar Corporation, a company that she founded in
1988 that manufactured and sold CO2 lasers for dental, oral surgery, and
cosmetic surgery applications. In mid-1990s, Luxar was sold to ESC
Medical. Prior to Luxar, Dr. Crothall was co-founder and President of
Laakmann Electro-Optics, a company that manufactured CO2 lasers for the
medical, aerospace and industrial markets. Johnson & Johnson acquired
Laakmann Electro-Optics in 1981, and from 1981 through 1986, Dr.
Crothall continued to lead the company. Dr. Crothall received her BS
from University of Pennsylvania in 1971 and her PhD from the University
of Southern California in 1975, each in Electrical Engineering. Profile
