JOSEPH NICASTRO, President of Unico, Inc., was employed by the Today
Newspapers in Wayne, New Jersey, where he began his career in the
newspaper business. Following a successful career, Mr. Nicastro decided
to leave in 1987 and begin a newspaper on his own. With a circulation of
18,000 twice a month and a staff of two, he began The Independent News.
By 1988 Mr. Nicastro had joined the Independent Free Papers of America,
the largest free paper association in the country, and became involved
immediately. By 1990 the circulation had grown to 52,000 homes weekly.
As the publisher of The Independent News, he has taken it to become the
leader in its area, with annualized revenue of $2.5 million and growing. Profile
