John Sherman Jr. – Scott & Stringfellow Inc (scot)

JOHN SHERMAN JR. became the president and chief executive officer of Scott & Stringfellow Financial Inc. on January 1, 1996. As president and CEO, Sherman has overall responsibility for the operations of the publicly-held holding company and its two subsidiaries, Scott & Stringfellow Inc. and Scott & Stringfellow Capital Management Inc. He serves on the board of directors of Scott & Stringfellow Financial Inc. and Scott & Stringfellow Inc. Prior to becoming president and CEO, Sherman served as the company's executive vice president and chief operating officer, and before that as head of administration and retail sales for Scott & Stringfellow Inc., a regional brokerage and investment banking firm with 29 offices and approximately 236 investment brokers in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and West Virginia. Sherman, 51, joined Scott & Stringfellow as manager of its Kinston, N.C. office in 1988 and was named the firm's head of branch administration and retail sales in 1993, and to the board of Scott & Stringfellow Financial Inc. in January of 1995. He was named executive vice president and chief operating officer in August of 1995. From 1973 to 1980, Sherman served as an executive of Wachovia Bank. He joined Wheat First Butcher Singer's Kinston office as an investment broker in 1980 and later served as vice president and branch manager.
