JOHN SCHMIDT was appointed Chief Operating Officer of Heartland
Financial USA, Inc. in April 2004. Until then, he had held the position
of President and CEO of Dubuque Bank and Trust since January 2000. Prior
to that he held the position of Senior Vice President and Chief
Financial Officer of DB&T, as well as Executive Vice President and Chief
Financial Officer of Heartland Financial USA, Inc. He remains EVP and
CFO of Heartland. Before joining Dubuque Bank and Trust in 1984, Mr.
Schmidt was employed by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency
and Peat Marwick Mitchell in Des Moines. A Certified Public Accountant,
he graduated from the University of Northern Iowa, where he earned his
Bachelor of Arts degree in 1982. Profile
