John Rife – United Fire & Casualty Company (ufcs)

JOHN A. RIFE is President and Chief Executive Officer of United Fire Group. He has been a member of the company for over 27 years, serving in a number of capacities during that time. In 1976, he joined United Fire's subsidiary, United Life Insurance Company, as a marketing representative. Over the next eight years, he was named Assistant Vice President/Marketing Manager and Vice President of Marketing of United Life. He became President of United Life Insurance Company in 1984, President of United Fire & Casualty Company in 1997, President of American Indemnity Companies in 1999, and Chief Executive Officer of United Fire Group in 2000. Mr. Rife attended the University of Iowa, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1965. In 1977, he earned his Chartered Life Underwriter designation from American College. Prior to joining United Fire & Casualty Company, Mr. Rife worked for Equitable of Iowa in Des Moines, Iowa, from 1970 to 1976, as an insurance salesman. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of United Fire & Casualty Company and its subsidiaries, the Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, and Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust, and on the Board of Trustees of Mercy Medical Center.
