John Monahan – Avigen Inc (avgn)

JOHN MONAHAN is President and Chief Executive Officer of Avigen, Inc. Over the past nine years, Dr. Monahan founded and built Avigen, Inc., a new gene therapy company which has become a leader in the development of gene therapy products derived from adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors for the treatment of inherited and acquired diseases. From 1989 to 1992, he was the Vice President of Research and Development at Somatix Therapy Corporation in Alameda, California. Dr. Monahan was Director of Molecular and Cell Biology at Berlex Laboratories in Alameda, California, from 1985 to 1989. He was a member of the Roche Institute of Molecular Biology for five years before becoming Group Research Chief at Hoffman-La Roche in Nutley, New Jersey ,for two years. Dr. Monahan also held an Adjunct Assistant Professor position in the Department of Cell Biology at New York University from 1980 to 1985. From 1974 to 1977, he was an Instructor at the Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Monahan received his PhD in Biochemistry from McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada.
