J. THOMAS WILEY JR. is Vice Chairman and Chief Banking Officer of Flag
Financial Corporation and President and Chief Executive Officer of its
subsidiary, Flag Bank. Mr. Wiley began his banking career with Citizens
& Southern National Bank in 1975. He joined Bank Corporation of Georgia
in 1982 and served as Executive Vice President and City President of
Bank Corporation of Georgia's First South Bank subsidiary. In 1990, Mr.
Wiley was named President and Chief Executive Officer of Bank
Corporation of Georgia's Ameribank subsidiary in Savannah, Georgia.
Subsequent to the merger of Bank Corporation of Georgia with Century
South Banks, Inc., in 1997, Mr. Wiley was elected Executive Vice
President and Chief Banking Officer of Century South Banks, Inc. Upon
the merger of Century South Banks, Inc. with Branch Banking & Trust in
2002, Mr. Wiley joined Flag Financial Corporation in Atlanta. While
living in Savannah, Mr. Wiley was actively involved with numerous
community organizations including the United Way of Savannah, Ronald
McDonald House, Savannah Economic Development Authority and the Small
Business Assistance Corporation. He served as chairman of the Savannah
area Chamber of Commerce in 1997 and graduated from the Leadership
Georgia Foundation in 2001. Mr. Wiley is a graduate of Valdosta State
University and the School of Banking of the South, Louisiana State
University. He is currently Chairman-elect and a Director of the Georgia
Bankers Association and serves as a Board member for Georgia Department
