GEORGE S. SCIMONE was named Senior Vice President and Chief Financial
Officer of Reader's Digest Association, Inc., in July 1998. He had been
Vice President and Chief Financial Officer since 1997. Prior to his
position as Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Scimone held the position of
President, Reader's Digest USA, from November 1996 until September 1997.
He joined Reader's Digest in September 1995 as Vice President and
Controller. Prior to joining Reader's Digest, Mr. Scimone spent 27 years
at General Electric Co., a global diversified technology, manufacturing
and services company with 1994 sales of $60.1 billion. Most recently he
was a Business Chief Financial Officer with GE's Electrical Distribution
and Control business, which operates in 40 plants worldwide in the
design, manufacture and sales of electrical products. Mr. Scimone was
Director of Finance for the pan-European manufacturing and sales
operations of GE Plastics-Europe from 1987-1990. He also was Manager of
Financial Operations of GE Plastics in the United States, and Manager of
Finance for Noryl Products Division of GE Plastics. Mr. Scimone gained
considerable experience managing joint ventures and strategic alliances
for GE Plastics throughout the world from 1982 to 1984 as Finance
Manager of International Ventures. Earlier in his career, he was a
member of GE's corporate audit staff. He began his career at GE in 1968
after receiving a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Boston College. He
earned a Master's degree in Business Administration from Babson College
