FREDRICK WILLETTS III is Chairman of the Board, President and a Director
(elected to Board in 1976) of Cooperative Bankshares, Inc. He joined
Cooperative Bank (formerly Cooperative Savings and Loan Association) in
1972 as a management trainee. Mr. Willetts is a member of the Government
Relations Committee of the American Bankers Association and a member of
the Government Affairs Steering Committee of America's Community
Bankers. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and
graduated from Guilford College with a BA in History in 1972. He is a
graduate of the School of Savings and Loan at Indiana University. Mr.
