CHARLES E. HUGHES, JR., has been President and Chief Executive Officer
of Florida Banks, Inc., since January 1998. Prior to joining Florida
Banks he was Chairman, President and CEO of Southtrust Bank of Florida,
NA, from February 1992 to January 1998; Executive Vice President and
Chief Financial Officer of Baptist Health System, Inc., from September
1990 to February 1992; First Coast Area Executive of First Union
National Bank from February 1990 to September 1990. He has held various
positions with Florida National Bank/First Union National Bank from
1975-1990, and from 1967-1975 he was Assistant Cashier and Assistant
Vice President with Wachovia Bank & Trust. Mr. Hughes has a BA in
Economics from Clemson University and MBA courses from the University of
