Carl Byers – Athenahealth Inc

CARL BYERS has served as athenahealth's Chief Financial Officer since the company's founding in 1997. In this capacity, Mr. Byers helped the company raise more than $50 million of equity and debt capital, including four equity rounds and several debt facilities. Mr. Byers leads the companies planning and accounting activities and also serves as Treasurer and Secretary of the Board. Prior to joining athenahealth, Mr. Byers was a management consultant at Booz-Allen & Hamilton based in New York City. While at the firm, Mr. Byers worked on client efforts for the Financial Services Group and developed intellectual capital on risk management and credit scoring. His achievements there included planning a re-engineering program for a fortune 500 company that resulted in $1 billion of annual cost savings, evaluation of a new credit card product for a diversified financial services company, and a study of the future of investment banking for a bulge bracket banking house. Before joining Booz-Allen, Byers was a Business Fellow at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business where he studied accounting and finance. Mr. Byers earned a Bachelor's degree with honors from Wesleyan University and was awarded the Plukas Prize for his thesis on the Chicago School of Economics.
