William Crowell – Cylink Corporation (cylk)

WILLIAM P. CROWELL is President and Chief Executive Officer of Santa Clara, California-based Cylink Corporation, a leading provider of hardware and software security solutions for mission- critical private networks and business communications over the Internet. Prior to becoming CEO in November 1998, Mr. Crowell was Cylink's Vice President for Product Strategy. Prior to joining Cylink he was with National Security Agency, where he held a series of senior positions, including Deputy Director of Operations and Deputy Director of the Agency. From 1989-1990, Mr. Crowell served as a Vice President at Atlantic Aerospace Electronics Corporation in Greenbelt, Maryland. In April 1999, he was appointed by then-President Clinton to the President's Export Council (PEC), which advised the administration on trade and export policy. He served as Chairman of the PEC Subcommittee on Encryption, which worked with the Administration, Congress and private industry to substantially loosen restrictions on the export of encryption products and technology. In March 2001, the Secretary of Defense appointed him to the federal advisory committee that conducted a comprehensive review of the U.S. Nuclear Command and Control System. In November 2001, he was appointed to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Task Force on Terrorism and Deterrence. In March 2002, he was appointed to the Task Force on National Security in the Information Age, and the Silicon Valley Blue Ribbon Task Force on Aviation Security and Technology.
