William Cavanaugh – Carolina Power & Light (cpl)

WILLIAM CAVANAUGH, a 30-year professional in the commercial energy industry, is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Carolina Power & Light, a Raleigh, NC-based energy company. He came to CP&L in 1992 after a 23-year career at Entergy Corp. and its subsidiaries. At Entergy, Cavanaugh held a number of management positions, including Group President of Energy Supply; Chairman, CEO and Director for Entergy Operations Inc.; and Chairman, CEO and Director of System Energy Resources Inc. Earlier in his career at Entergy, he held management positions with Arkansas Power & Light, Louisiana Power & Light and Mississippi Power & Light. He assumed the role of CEO of CP&L in 1996 and Chairman in 1999. Mr. Cavanaugh earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tulane University in 1961. He also has completed several utility management programs and the Harvard University Advanced Management Program. Mr. Cavanaugh serves on the Board of Directors of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce; the Governing Board of the World Association of Nuclear Operators, on which he also serves as Atlanta Center Chairman; the Board of Directors of the NC Business Council of Management and Development; the Board of Visitors at the University of North Carolina Kenan Flagler School of Business; the President's Council for the Tulane University School of Engineering; and the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Nuclear Energy Institute.
