Umberto Rosa – Snia Spa (siai.mi)

UMBERTO ROSA is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SNIA SpA. He graduated in Chemistry, and joined FIAT Nuclear Division in 1959, working as a member of the research teams in several Research Centers in Italy and abroad (SORIN/Saluggia, LFC/CNR Pisa, CEA/Saclay). In 1967, he obtained a PhD in Radiochemistry. In 1973, he was in charge of converting the FIAT Nuclear Research Center (SORIN) into an industrial company, operating in the biomedical field (artificial organs, diagnostic reagents) of which he became Managing Director (1975) then CEO (1980). Through the acquisition of SORIN by the SNIA Group, first he became member of the Managing Committee, than CEO in 1990 and Chairman in 1996. Mr Rosa is Chairman of IPA (the National Institute for the Environmental Technologies) from 1996. He is also a Director of Air Liquide Italia SpA, Istituto Europeo di Oncologia (IEO) SpA and of Fondazione San Raffaele. He serves as Chairman of Istituto per l'Ambiente and Vice Chairman of Federchimica. He has been on the Board of Confindustria, with responsibility for research, technological innovation and environmental issues. In 1997 he received the Legion d'Honneur from the President of France.
