TOMAS W. CARRUTHERS is the Chief Executive of Interactive Investor
International Plc. Tomas is responsible for the strategic direction and
general management of Interactive Investor International Plc and all
operating companies. Tomas was educated at RGS Newcastle and Jesus
College Cambridge, and in 1994 was one of the founders and Business
Development Directors of Electronic Share Information Ltd, now the UK
subsidiary of E*Trade. He subsequently launched the first source of
real time prices for London equities and dealing systems on the internet
in 1995, enabling internet trading in equities, unit trusts and traded
options. In July 1997 Tomas founded Interactive Markets Ltd (now iii
Markets) and in 1998 delivered a solution enabling the first straight-
through net retail trading in London equities. In November 1998 Tomas
was appointed Group Managing Director and in March 1999 was appointed
Group CEO. In February 2000 he led the IPO of Interactive Investor
