Thomas J. Engibous – Texas Instruments Inc (txn)

THOMAS (TOM) J. ENGIBOUS was elected president and chief executive officer of Texas Instruments Incorporated, one of the world's leading electronics companies, in June 1996. Mr. Engibous joined the company in 1976, the same year he earned a master's degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University. He has spent all of his operational career in the company's semiconductor business, beginning as an integrated circuit design engineer and eventually becoming manager of the entire business. By the middle 1980s, Mr. Engibous had assumed management responsibilities of TI's linear products business and was elected semiconductor group vice president. In 1991, he was named manager of the applications specific products business and semiconductor group senior vice president. In 1993 Texas Instruments executed a series of strategic transitions to reposition each of its major businesses, and Mr. Engibous was named corporate executive vice president and president of the semiconductor group, where he turned in record profitability and growth for TI. In addition to his TI duties, Mr. Engibous participates in various associations and activities. He is a member of The Business Roundtable and an associate member of the Dallas Citizens Council, as well as a member of the Institute of Electronic and Electric Engineers (IEEE) and the Purdue University Engineering Visiting Committee. In addition to his master's degree, Mr. Engibous also holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Purdue and was awarded an honorary doctorate in engineering at Purdue in May 1997.
