STEPHEN P. BARNES, CFA, CFP is a Principal and
Portfolio Manager for Barnes Investment Advisory, a private, fee-only
investment and financial planning firm headquartered in Phoenix,
Arizona. A Chartered Financial Analyst and Certified Financial Planner,
Stephen is presently serving as a national director for the Institute of
Certified Financial Planners, the national professional organization for
CFP licenses. Past involvement has included board positions in the
Greater Phoenix Society including a term as President in '90-'91. He is
also a member of the Association for Investment Management and Research
and active in the Phoenix Society of Financial Analysts. Since 1989,
Stephen has been a subject of biographical record in Who's Who in
Finance and Industry. In the October, 1996 issue of Worth magazine, he
was named one of The Best 200 Financial Advisers in the U.S. In his
spare time, he serves as Chairman of the Board for Desert Schools
Federal Credit Union, a $700 million financial institution. Stephen
keeps tabs on the foreign markets for The Motley Fool under the screen
name MF Yon. He also moonlights as the informal leader of the Fool's
Folly in Arizona folder. Stephen's business partner (and wife), Kathie
Barnes, is also a Certified Financial Planner with special expertise in
retirement and estate planning. Together they have one daughter,
