SAM WAUCHOPE became Executive Chairman of Ultrasis Plc in 1998. His
challenge was to take what was then a struggling engineering group and
find a route to growth and positive returns for shareholders. He was
responsible for the acquisition of Ultramind Group Plc, which lies at
the heart of the Group's transformation into an 'Interactive Healthcare'
company dedicated to the worldwide exploitation of its applied
technologies. Mr Wauchope had previously been Group Chief Executive of
Acorn Computer Group Plc from 1990 to 1995. During this time, he began
the process of widening the exploitation of Acorn's renowned technology
base beyond its traditional computer market. As one example, in November
1990 Acorn spun out its microprocessor technology and design capability
into a new joint venture company, ARM Holdings, subsequently floated in
London and on NASDAQ in 1997 and now one of the world's most highly
regarded and valued microprocessor design groups. Acorn was also
involved in working in consortia to develop systems and applications for
interactive television. It is this model of exploiting unique
technologies through partners that Ultrasis is following today. Profile
