ROY A. WHITFIELD is the Chief Executive Officer of Incyte Genomics, Inc.
Mr. Whitfield pioneered the genomic information business by co-founding
Incyte in 1991. With more than 20 years of experience, he has a varied
and extensive background in innovative business strategy development and
execution. Mr. Whitfield is also a member of the Board of Directors for
Aurora Biosciences Corp. and the Biotechnology Industry Organization
(BIO). Over the last two years, Mr. Whitfield has spearheaded Incyte's
major business expansion and intellectual property creation in the areas
of gene sequence and expression, SNP discovery (single nucleotide
polymorphisms), and proteomics. Prior to his achievements at Incyte, Mr.
Whitfield held senior operating and business development positions at
Technicon Instruments Corporation, and its predecessor company,
CooperBiomedical, Inc. His experience there encompassed general
management and the structuring and negotiation of acquisitions and
licensing agreements in the fields of medical instrumentation and
biotechnology. Mr. Whitfield started his career in the international
corporate strategy practice of the Boston Consulting Group, where he
spent seven years developing and implementing business strategies for
Fortune 500, European, and Japanese clients. Mr. Whitfield earned a
Bachelor's degree with first-class honors in Mathematics from Oxford
University and an MBA with distinction from Stanford University. Profile
