ROBERT E. PRINCE is President and Chief Executive Officer of Duratek,
Inc., a mid-sized Columbia, Maryland-based radioactive material
management company. Mr. Prince is a Naval Academy graduate who served
aboard nuclear powered submarines in various engineering positions. He
completed his certification as a Naval Nuclear Engineer, which is the
equivalent of a Professional Engineer. After leaving the Navy in 1976,
he worked for Gilbert Commonwealth, Inc., for which he managed
engineering projects in the United States and abroad. During that time,
he earned an MBA from the Wharton School of Finance, University of
Pennsylvania. Mr. Prince joined General Physics Corporation in 1984
where he founded General Technical Services, Inc., or GTS, a supplier of
contract technical personnel to the commercial nuclear power industry,
and served as GTS' President and CEO. When Duratek Corporation, a
publicly held but financially delicate nuclear waste treatment company,
bought GTS in 1990, Mr. Prince was appointed President and CEO of
Duratek as well. During 1991, he led the consolidation of the two
companies to form GTS Duratek, bringing together substantial hi-tech
personnel resources and advanced waste treatment technology. Since its
beginning in 1982, Duratek has had an exclusive licensing arrangement
with The Catholic University of America's Vitreous State Laboratory, or
VSL, through which the company commercializes waste treatment technology
developed in the lab. Today, Duratek is playing a key role in providing
its technology to the Department of Energy's Waste Treatment Project in
Richland, Washington. In April 1997, Duratek acquired The Scientific
Ecology Group, which tripled the size of Duratek, making it the largest
processor of commercial low-level radioactive waste in the US. In June
2002, Duratek acquired Waste Management Nuclear Services which grew the
company by 50%. Today, Duratek is a leader in providing total
radioactive materials management. Mr. Prince has led the growth of
Duratek from $35 million to approximately $300 million in the last 10
years. Mr. Prince was named Maryland Entrepreneur (technology) of the
Year in June 1996. Profile
