Richard Notebaert – Ameritech (ait)

RICHARD NOTEBAERT is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Ameritech. Ameritech (NYSE:AIT) serves millions of customers in 50 states and 40 countries. Ameritech provides a full range of communications services, including local and long distance telephone, cellular, paging, security monitoring, cable TV, electronic commerce, on-line services and more. One of the world's 100 largest companies, Ameritech (www.ameritech. com) has 73,000 employees, 1 million shareowners and $25 billion in assets. Mr. Notebaert began his career in 1969 at Wisconsin Bell, where he held a number of positions in operations and marketing before moving to Ameritech Communications in 1983 as vice president of marketing and operations. He became president of Ameritech Mobile Communications in 1986, president of Indiana Bell in 1989, and president of Ameritech Services in 1992. Mr. Notebaert moved to Ameritech's corporate organization in January 1993 as vice chairman. In June 1993 he became president and chief operating officer, and in January 1994 was elected president and chief executive officer. He was elected to the position of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer on April 20, 1994, and is responsible for Ameritech's total operations, including its customer-driven business units, international operations and five state organizations. Mr. Notebaert received a bachelor of arts degree in 1969 and a master's degree in business administration in 1983, both from the University of Wisconsin. He has received the following honorary degrees: doctor of business management from Indiana Wesleyan University; doctor of science and technology from the University of Indianapolis; and doctor of science from Ripon College. He is a charter trustee of Northwestern University, a trustee of the University of Notre Dame and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and a member of the board of directors of Sears, Roebuck & Co. He is also a member of Northwestern University's J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management Advisory Board and a member of the University of Illinois President's Advisory Council. Mr. Notebaert is currently a member of The Business Council, The Business Roundtable, The Council on Competitiveness, The Committee for Economic Development, The Chicago Council on Foreign Relations, the Civic Committee of The Commercial Club of Chicago, and The Economic Club of Chicago.
