Mitchell Caplan – Telebanc Financial Corporation (tbfc)

MITCHELL CAPLAN is Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors, Chief Executive Officer and President of both Telebanc Financial Corporation and its wholly owned subsidiary, Telebank. Mr. Caplan is the chief strategist in advancing Telebank into the arena of electronic commerce. Through his commitment to consistent growth and aggressive change, Telebank has become the leading and largest Internet bank providing high value financial products and services through electronic delivery channels, and the only Internet bank to be ranked among the top 50 U.S. federally chartered savings banks. As one of the founding partners of Telebanc Financial Corporation, Mr. Caplan served as a principal strategist in the company's initial public offering, and it's recent follow-through offering. Mr. Caplan currently oversees the ongoing strategy, development and operations of both Telebanc Financial Corporation and Telebank, including marketing, capital markets, finance and administration. In 1999, Mr. Caplan earned the prestigious Greater Washington Area Entrepreneur of the Year Award for the Financial Services category from Ernst & Young, LLP. Mr. Caplan joined TeleBanc Financial as President and CEO in 1993. Prior to joining Telebanc, Mr. Caplan was a partner in the law firm of Danziger and Caplan from 1990 through 1993. From 1985 through 1990, he practiced law with Shearman and Sterling in New York City. Mr. Caplan holds a J.D./M.B.A. from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and a BA in History from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. Mr. Caplan serves as a National Ambassador for the American Committee of the Weizman Institute of Science at Rehovet outside Tel Aviv, Israel. He is also a Director on the Board of the Washington Chapter of the American Committee. Mr. Caplan's non-profit work also includes efforts on behalf of the Herzl Society of United Jewish Appeal of Greater Washington.
