MIKE GRABINER is the Chief Executive of Energis PLC. He was appointed to
the Board of Energis PLC in September 1997, and in April 1998 he was
appointed Chairman of the Board of MetroHoldings Limited. He joined the
Board of Energis Communications Ltd. in January 1996 as Chief Executive.
He was appointed chairman of Planet Online in September 1998 and a non-
executive Director of The Littlewoods Organisation plc in December
1998. Prior to his appointment as Chief Executive of Energis, Mike was
Director, BT Europe (appointed April 1994), and was responsible for
developing and managing BT's activities in continental Europe and, in
particular, its joint ventures. He was also a member of the board of BT
Telecomunicaciones SA in Spain, VIAG InterKom in Germany, Telenordia in
Sweden and Albacom in Italy. Mike joined the Post Office in 1973 from
Kings College, Cambridge where he graduated in economics. Three years
later, he was appointed as personal assistant to the Managing Director,
Telecommunications. In 1979 he qualified as a Cost and Management
Accountant and in 1980 he won a scholarship to study on the Sloan
Programme at the London Business School. He returned to BT to join a
unit responsible for reorganising BT into divisional profit centres and
in 1982 he became Controller of Commercial Finance at BT Divisional
Headquarters. In 1984 he was appointed Deputy Director of Marketing
responsible for marketing planning, intelligence and pricing. From here
Mike went on to become General Manager for BT's newly established
Northern London District in 1985, and in 1988 he was appointed as
General Manager, City of London District. In 1990, he was appointed as
BT's Director, Quality and Organisation where he was responsible to BT's
Chairman, Iain Vallance, for managing the implementation of Project
Sovereign. He was appointed to the post of Director, Global Customer
Service for BT's Business Communications Division in April 1992, wih
responsibility for the delivery of customer service to all business
customers worldwide. Profile
