L. DANIEL JORNDT, is President and Chief Executive Officer of Walgreen
Co., the drugstore chain headquartered in Deerfield, Ill. Mr. Jorndt
earned a pharmacy degree in 1963 from Drake University, Des Moines,
Iowa. He began his career with Walgreens that same year. After holding
various store management positions, he became a district manager in
1968. Mr. Jorndt, who earned a Master's degree in business in 1974 from
the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, was promoted to regional
director (1975), regional Vice President (1979), and Vice President and
Treasurer (1982). He served as a member of the Board of Directors of
Sanborn Hermanos S.A., Walgreens former Mexican subsidiary, from 1982 to
1984. In 1985, Mr. Jorndt was named Senior Vice President and Treasurer
of Walgreen Co. He was promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer
in 1990, the same year he was elected to the Walgreen Co. Board of
Directors. Mr. Jorndt was named President and Chief Executive Officer in
January 1998 upon the retirement of Charles R. Walgreen III. Profile

2500 stores coast to coast and Puerto Rico. We're
