KATHLEEN P. MULLINIX, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of
Synaptic Pharmaceutical Corporation, was one of the Founders of the
company in 1988. Dr. Mullinix has positioned the company as a leader in
human target-based drug design and established collaborative programs
with Eli Lilly and Company, Merck & Co., Inc., Novartis Pharma AG, The
DuPont Merck Pharmaceutical Company, Warner-Lambert Company, Grnenthal
GmbH, Kissei Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., and the RW Johnson Pharmaceutical
Research Institute. Prior to joining Synaptic, Dr. Mullinix was Vice
Provost of Columbia University in the City of New York. Previously she
spent nine years at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda,
Maryland, rising to the position of Assistant Director of the Intramural
Program. Dr. Mullinix holds a PhD in Chemical Biology from Columbia
University in the City of New York, completed a postdoctoral fellowship
at Harvard University and received a BA in Chemistry from Trinity
