James J. Byrnes – Tompkins County Trustco

JAMES J. BYRNES is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Tompkins Trustco, Inc., and Chairman of its subsidiary, Tompkins Trust Company, since 1989. From 1978 to 1988, Mr. Byrnes was with Bank of Montreal and headed the U.S. Division. He held senior management positions in commercial and small business lending, foreign exchange and money market trading, and the foreign branches of the bank. From 1968 to 1978 Mr. Byrnes was with Citibank, New York City. From 1964 to 1966 he was an Army infantry officer. Mr. Byrnes has an MBA from Cornell University's Johnson Graduate School of Management. Mr. Byrnes is involved in several local community organizations, including Tompkins County Area Development, Finger Lakes Land Trust, Ithaca Neighborhood Housing, and Rotary. He serves on the Cornell University Council and various advisory committees at Cornell and Ithaca College. He is a Director of the New York Bankers Association, Independent Bankers Association of New York State, and New York Business Development Corporation. Profile
