JAMES BROWN, D.V.M., President, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder
of DURECT Corporation. Previously with ALZA Corporation as vice-
president of Biopharmaceutical and Implant Unit. Dr. Brown earned his
Bachelor of Science degree from San Jose State University and his Doctor
of Veterinary Medicine from the University of California at Davis, where
he also conducted post-graduate work in pharmacology and toxicology. Dr.
Brown has worked in private practice as a veterinary clinician and was
an adjunct instructor at the University of California at Davis'
department of veterinary pharmacology and toxicology. Dr. Brown has over
17 years pharmaceutical and medical industry experience at ALZA, Roche
Bioscience, Syntex and SYVA Corporations. He was the spokesman for the
1997/1998 cardiovascular advertisement for the Pharmaceutical Research
and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) television advertising campaign. He
currently serves on the board of directors of Aurogen, a privately-held
biotechnology company in Fort Collins, Colo. Profile
