Istvan Orban – Egis Pharmaceuticals Rt (egis.bu)

ISTVAN ORBAN is the CEO of EGIS Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (formerly EGYT Pharmacochemical Works). Employed at EGIS since 1970, Mr. Orban has worn many hats. Prior to his appointment as CEO, he served as general manager (1982-), technical director (1980-82), chief engineer (1978-79), head of engineering dept. (1975 to 78), development engineer (1973-75) head of research planning dept. (1972-73), researcher (1971-72), and engineer in production (1964-70). Mr. Orban received a chemical engineering degree in 1964, a postgraduate degree in pharmaceutical chemistry in 1970, and a Ph.D. in 1972 all from the Technical University of Budapest, Hungary. Currently, Mr. Orban is an Honorary Professor at the University of Budapest and President of the Confederation of Hungarian Employers and Industrialists and the Hungarian Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association. His accolades and awards include: Order of Merit of the Hungarian Republic- Middle Cross (1996), Eotvos Lorand Award (1995 and 1987) and Gabor Denes Award (1995). TWST: Can you give us a brief overview of your company?

Mr. Orban: The legal predecessor of EGIS Pharmaceuticals Ltd was founded

as the subsidiary of the Swiss company Wander in 1913. In the
