HANS-JOACHIM LOHRISCH is a member of the Managing Board of ALTANA AG in
Bad Homburg as of December 1999 and is President and CEO of Byk Gulden
since January 2000. He graduated in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and
Pharmacology at Technical University Berlin and received his Doctorate
in 1977 at the University of Bonn. In Bonn Dr. Lohrisch served as
Assistant Professor of Organic Chemistry since 1975. He joined Merck
KGaA in 1978 and served until 1990 in various positions as R&D Project
Manager, Licensing Manager, Senior Business Development Manager and
Member of the Marketing and Sales Management in the UK. From 1990 to
1999 he held numerous leading management positions with Merck KGaA.
Basic positions were: Director of Pharmaceuticals in Portugal; Head of
Corporate Marketing at head office in Germany; Executive Vice President-
German Prescription Business; CEO of Merck's worldwide generics business
based in London; Executive Vice President worldwide prescription
