JANE HOLDSWORTH, President of Thames & Kosmos, founded the new company
in 2001. Previously a science museum chief executive for more than 20
years, Ms. Holdsworth is the inventor of several innovative, award-
winning exhibitions and multimedia science education programs funded by
the National Science Foundation. These include "Project RobotACTS" in
which she developed prototypes of the first computer-controlled LEGO
robots and "Project Watershed Worlds," an interdisciplinary exhibition
and education program that has been widely replicated by schools,
museums, and environmental organizations. To disseminate these projects,
she installed the first museum computer network serving teachers
throughout the US. Ms. Holdsworth opened her first science store,
REALTIMEScience international, in 1993 in Newport Rhode Island. The
store, which is now part of Thames & Kosmos, was considered a pioneering
venture in experiential retailing. She recently negotiated a long-term
licensing agreement with the 175-year-old science kit publishing house
Franckh-Kosmos of Stuttgart, Germany. Ms. Holdsworth holds a BA in
Journalism from the University of Rhode Island. She has also worked as a
technical manual editor, investigative news reporter and congressional
speechwriter specializing in science and technology. Profile
