Fred Hafer – Gpu Inc (gpu)

FRED D. HAFER was elected President and Chief Operating Officer of GPU, Inc. in 1996. The following year, 1997, he was elevated to his current position as Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer. In 1996 Mr. Hafer also led the formation of the company's combined domestic wires business (currently doing business as GPU Energy) as part of GPU's transformation into a strategically focused infrastructure company. Previously, he held the position of President for the combined companies of Metropolitan Edison Company and Pennsylvania Electric Company (MetEd/Penelec). He had served as President of MetEd, beginning in 1986. Mr. Hafer joined the GPU system in 1962 as an engineering trainee. His extraordinary progression through the company then ensued, and by 1970 he was named Treasurer. In 1977 he was appointed Vice President of Rate Case Management for GPU Service. Profile
