EDWARD M. RUDNIC founded Advancis Pharmaceutical Corporation and has
been the President, Chief Executive Officer and a Director since its
inception. Dr. Rudnic has more than 20 years of industry experience in
the development and commercialization of a wide range of pharmaceutical
products. He has filed over 30 patents (US and Internationally),
primarily in the fields of antibiotics, antibiotic combinations and
antibiotic adjuvants, as well as in the antifungal, antiviral and anti-
cancer fields. From April 1991 to January 1996, Dr. Rudnic directed the
Research and Development activities in the US for Shire Pharmaceuticals.
Shire acquired Pharmavene in 1997, a startup company focused on the
design and commercialization of drug delivery systems, where he was
Senior Vice President for Development and Technical Operations from
January 1996 to January 1999. From March 1985 to October 1990, he held
positions of increasing responsibility as a Director of Formulation
Development and head of Pharmaceutical Process Development at Schering-
Plough Corporation. Dr. Rudnic was a Research Investigator at E.R.
Squibb and Sons, developing oral controlled-release dosage forms and
novel drug delivery concepts. Dr. Rudnic has a BS in Pharmacy, an MS in
Pharmaceutics and a Doctorate in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the
University of Rhode Island. He holds Adjunct Professorships at the
