CHARLES M. SNIPES is President & CEO of Bank of Granite. He is a
veteran of 40 years as a community banker in the Catawba Valley. He
joined First National Bank of Catawba County in Hickory as a
Manager/Trainee. The bank grew from assets of $37 million to $380
million when the bank was sold to First Union in November, 1981. Snipes
was named Senior Vice President and Regional Executive for First Union
until he resigned to join the Bank of Granite as Executive Vice
President in September, 1982. At that time, Bank of Granite had assets
totaling $67 million. Named President in July 1987 and CEO in April,
1994. At the end of 1997 Bank of Granite assets totaled $528 million.
Snipes graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, North Carolina
School of Banking at UNC-Chapel Hill and the Stonier Graduate School of
Banking at Rutgers University. His current banking leadership positions:
