CHARLES S. (Chuck) JOHNSON became president, chief executive officer in
1995 and chairman of the board of Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. in
December, 1996. Previously, he served the company as senior vice
president and treasurer, and executive vice president. Johnson began his
career at Pioneer Hi-Bred in 1965 as an accountant. He held several
posts in the company's accounting department, before he was elected vice
president of finance and treasurer in 1980. Johnson has been an active
leader both nationally and in Des Moines. He was an advisor to the U.S.
delegation attending the World Food Summit in Rome during November, 1996
and participated in President Clinton's Economic Conference and the
Midwest Region Economic Conference in 1993. In Des Moines, Johnson
serves as director of many board and organizations, including the Des
Moines Chamber of Commerce, The National Association of Manufacturers,
Des Moines Art Center and the Health Policy Corporation of Iowa. Johnson
served as Co-Chairman of the Governor of Iowa's Human Services
Leadership Roundtable and as a member of the state's Commission on
Health Care Cost Containment. Johnson was born in Belmond, Iowa in 1938.
After spending two years in the army, he graduated from Iowa State
University with a B.S. in Industrial Administration in 1965. Profile
