C. Tycho Howle – Harbinger Corp (hrbc)

C. TYCHO HOWLE is Founder, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Harbinger Corporation. Mr. Howle founded Harbinger in March 1983 and has led the Company to become a world-class E-Commerce firm with more than 1,000 employees, 40,000 active customers and record revenues of $135.2 million in 1998. Tycho reassumed the role of Chief Executive Officer in October 1998, a position he has held previously for most of Harbinger's history. As a leader in E-Commerce, he has received numerous awards including being named one of the '25 Unsung Heroes on the Internet' by Inter@active Week. He was also selected as the '1997 Entrepreneur of the Year' in the Emerging Technologies Category for the Southeastern U.S., an annual event sponsored by Nasdaq and Ernst & Young LLP. Before founding Harbinger, Mr. Howle was a consultant with McKinsey Company, Inc., specializing in marketing and strategy studies. His experience includes studies in the telecommunications, apparel, banking and textile industries. Prior to McKinsey, Tycho was a product line manager for personal computers at Hewlett-Packard. From 1973 to 1977, Tycho was a project engineer with Booz, Allen Hamilton's Applied Research Unit. Mr. Howle holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, and an M.S. in Systems Engineering and a B.S. with Honors in Physics from Clemson University. In addition, Mr. Howle has been a member of several corporate boards and professional associations ranging from the boards of directors of other publicly traded companies to non-profit organizations such as the Harvard Business School Association and SciTrek, the Atlanta science museum. He was appointed by the Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives to serve on the Electronic Commerce Study Committee of the Georgia State Assembly, and served in that capacity for two years. He also has served as a Member of the Technology Advisory Committee for the Westminister Schools in Atlanta, Georgia.
